The Vine Grower – The Fruit Grower

Hutchinsons’ Horticultural Agronomist Rob Saunders launched the firm’s Vineyard Guide at this year’s Vineyard Show with the aim of supporting new entrants to the UK’s viticulture sector.

He explained that the UK’s vineyard owners and managers can be divided into three categories: large wineries such as Gusbourne Estate and Nyetimber; growers of other crops, such as arable crops or top-fruit, who have diversified into vines; and people who make or have made their money doing something other than viticulture but have purchased a vineyard.

With the latter type of grower in the mind, Hutchinson’s new pictorial guide gives useful advice on topics such as vineyard nutrition, vine disorders, and the latest crop protection data, including approved crop protection products and spray programmes.

For 2025 Hutchinsons will be posting the guide out to people free of charge, but this may change in the future, said Rob.
